A big announcement is expected today for fans
of Korea’s Olympic Champion swimmer Park Tae-hwan. In just about two hours or so,… the Court
of Arbitration for Sport, or CAS, will give a ruling on whether Park can compete at this
summer’s Rio Olympics. Park was banned for 18-months by the international
swimming body, FINA, in 2014… after testing positive for testosterone.
The suspension was completed earlier this year… but the Korean Olympic Committee’s
rules stipulate… an additional three-year ban for Park.
That rule was deemed illegal by a Seoul court last week,… and now we’re waiting for the
CAS ruling. It will be the final ruling to decide whether
Park can compete,… as the Korean Olympic Committee announced this morning,… it will
follow the CAS decision. Friday is the last day for the South Korean
national team roster to be decided.
