Downtown Justice Court

Hi i’m David Cantor with the Law Offices
of David Michael Cantor and today I’m going to talk about the Downtown Justice Court. Now if you received a misdemeanor
criminal ticket or DUI and were directed to go to the Downtown
Justice Court that means you were arrested by either DPS or Maricopa County Sheriff’s Officer. If
you’re arrested by city cop they should have directed you to the city court. Now this particular Justice Court, its
jurisdictional boundaries are Thomas Road to the north, lower
Buckeye Road to the south, 56th Street to the east, and 19th drive
to the west. Now the actual boundaries look like this, so it’s not a perfect square, you see how it’s
all over the place, so if you were cited in Downtown Justice Court come on in and see us, if they did not arrest you within those
boundaries you have a jurisdictional defense to the charge, that’s something that can get the whole case thrown out. Now
this particular court is located at 620 West Jackson in Phoenix; that’s basically West Jackson
Street and 7th Avenue. Now when you show up the park is gonna
be either meters or at a parking garage that’s nearby. you should dress appropriately, no
sunglasses, no hats, no shorts, no t-shirt, or tank tops. The judge in this
particular court is Jimmy Hernandez. Now he’s very prompt
with his court room and what you need to understand about the justice courts and the justice of the peace, is that most to them never went to
law school. They’re simply elected into office and that’s dangerous. Can you imagine
electing your surgeon on a popularity contest, giving him six weeks of training and then
saying okay you’re now okay to operate on people. So if you’re charged with a DUI or
misdemeanor crime, you should get a lawyer. Call us, we’ll
set a free initial consultation with you, it
doesn’t cost anything but it does take about 30 minutes. We’ll go over your case with you from top to
bottom and hopefully find a way out of this thing for you, but I look forward to hearing from you
soon take care.
